The Old Quilt

As promised a long time ago.

I said I'd post some pictures of the house in Donegal. It still needs a more lived in look, but it is coming round nicely. Hoping to rent it out as a holiday home eventually.

 

  

I have just finished the garden, and amongst the plants I scattered loads of seed I had. The following day they got a good soak-in as pictured above. Ten days later I was back down and loads were coming up. So I will thin them out next time as I'll have a better idea os spacing then.

We can see the sea from the kitchen and two of the bedrooms, which is nice. As it is in the town we can walk and get all we need. A good beach is 5 minutes away in the car, and we have had fun discovering loads more. Donegal is a lovely place. Hoping we get some really nice weather this summer. We got away well last year, although we did a lot of DIY. This year I am hoping that I can sit on my lounger with my lavender, stock, thyme and buddleia lulling me, with a big glass of wine and a good book.

Alternative uses

I was reading my Cath Kidston book over Christmas (again) and I was once again struck by her comment that she uses a favourite old chipped mug as her washing powder scoop. I love that idea. It was only today that I realised that I am already doing this all the time. So I thought I would share some of these with you.

I bought this little set years ago. Quite cute and rustic. Nicola at Nicolas daisies reminded me I had these, but I had forgotten what I was using them for. They had integrated well! The jug was in the cupboard (shame on me), the pot was holding business cards on the office desk, and the little tray holds the salt and pepper mill (to catch all the debris that falls out their bum). I have reunited them for the picture. Aahh!

This is something I have a passion for. Shapely bowls. Perfect for tortilla chips etc. I love these types of bowls. Nicholas Mosse is nice, but Emily dropped this one on the floor last week. It had been a gift 10 years ago, and I was horrified. Amazingly it didn't smash, but there is a hairline crack and it makes the dull 'bing' noise. So now it holds the face-cloth at the sink.

Finally even when in my teens I was pottering about auctions. I picked up this bowl, in a bigger lot, and it is too damaged to use as a proper eating bowl. It stores my garlic.

I can't believe Cath has been stealing My ideas!

Anyway just to set the scene, I thought you would appreciate this. The kids are all in bed, I have tidied and it's blogging time!

Hummus, crackers and beer. I have run out of wine! Quality girl! I just want to point out though that I haven't bought alcohol since Christmas and had used the last bottle over the weekend. I'm not a complete lush lol!

I want to give the kids a wee chuckle in the morning too, so I am leaving messages for them. It's also to encourage my son's reading skills.
